The moment you knew what you want to do with your life, there was spark shining in your eyes. You even told yourself, “Yes, this I want to do—I will have my own business.” And that motivation combined with sacrifices, perseverance and hardship made you achieved your dream. Just like when you found the love of your life, giving everything you’ve got feels so fulfilling.
But when everything you’ve dreamed of starts to crumble, waking up each morning seems so hard to do. Managing your business feels like a monotonous cycle you want to escape from. You’re in that phase where you are slowly falling out of love of your business. As a business owner myself, I can somehow understand this feeling.
According to an article in The Denver Post, “Owners sometimes hate the small business they used to love.” This is sad but true. Every once in a while, there are times when things are uncontrollable and uncertain, we somehow ask ourselves if this was the right thing to do or if we should just give up.
Motivation plays a great role in our lives, especially when it comes to keeping on doing what you love. Staying motivated when things get rough can be really hard to do, but let me share you these steps on how to re-motivate yourself and fall in love with your business all over again:
STEP 1: Remember the Reason Why You Built Your Business
Whether it is because you want to become the richest person in the world or you simply want to help others through your business, whatever it is—it all matters. The very root of all your hard work building that business makes it worth fighting for. Try to remember why you went all those hardships just to build what you have right now.
STEP 2: Scribble down Notes
Take time to write down everything that went wrong. In this way, you can analyze why it happened. Maybe something is lacking in your marketing strategy or you need some adjustments master plan. You can identify the problem and at the same time solve each problem accordingly. Consulting your team can help you solve those problems faster.
STEP 3: Rekindle your passion outside of work
Do what you used to love when weekends come. Whether it is fishing, painting or singing, whatever it is; give yourself the chance to do it all over again. Having a so-called ‘passion project’ outside your work or business can counterbalance the monotonous cycle of day to day work. It will not only lessen the stress your feeling but can also uplift and inspire your spirit to keep on moving forward.
STEP 4: Start Building Bridges
Part of human nature is building connections with other people. As an old saying goes, “No man is an island.” It’s true that you built that business on your own, but you can’t make it grow without the help of others. That help may come from your talents, business partners, and virtual assistants or maybe from your virtual workforce. Whoever they are, those right people you chose to build relationships with will positively affect your business growth. Exchanging and sharing ideas, experiences and passion with these motivated people will help you grow not only in your business but also as a human being.
STEP 5: Always Believe In Yourself
Last but not least, always believe in yourself. Believe that you can do it because first of all; you are not alone in this battle. If ever you felt lost and you see yourself as a failure; remember what you went through, the people who support you and lastly the person in front of the mirror—you. You’ll start to fall in love with your business if you remember how to love yourself first. Those setbacks don’t define how good you are as an entrepreneur. Never forget that.
Remember that you’re an entrepreneur building a legacy in this world full of hardships and setbacks. Maintaining a strong will and lots of consistent motivation to keep on moving forward despite these hard times will let you carry on with life.
